Travel Time:  10 minute walk, in shade, easy access, from 250 m above sea level to 200 m asl, the cave is illuminated (ask for access key to Scala Municipality).

The cave of S. Lorenzo, the cave of Scala, or the cave of the Dragon, is located at the base of a high rocky wall on which is located the cathedral of S. Lorenzo di Scala. The reference to the Dragon is due to the homonymous stream that is located in its vicinity. It extends for 260m and is deep about 42m, which places it among the most important caves in the Lattari Mountains.

Inside it is a succession of very varied typologies, linked by narrow passages. Various landings and buildings are also visible, as in the past the authorities have tried to make it tourist. Exploration is suitable for young people and young people since it does not present any kind of difficulty. It aims to present the typical features of underground cavities, highlighting its beauty, charm, uniqueness, complexity and fragility. The excursion also has a didactic purpose, as it will illustrate the natural phenomena that are the basis of the origin and life of the hypogean environment.
